Tag: Spouse vs Spouse with Details

How did you meet your spouse?
We met on May 2, 1976. This was a Sunday and we met at church. Jonathan and his friends had just moved into my branch at BYU. My roommates and I went home from church that day and said, "Well, a bunch of new material has moved in but it looks like it will be another dry summer!"

Where did you go on your first date?
We went to play tennis. Jonathan had tried to ask me out on the Sunday we met to go to the fireside that night but I had already gone home with my roommates for dinner with my family. I didn't see Jonathan again until that Thursday or Friday. I was working at the Wilkie center cafeteria making sandwiches. We were almost ready to close when he came it. I said "Well, hi there, Jon Snow." I guess I impressed him enough that he asked me out for that Saturday. By the way, I don't play tennis so that didn't last very long.

How long have you been together?
31 years. This May 2, makes 32 years since we first met.

Who eats more?
I think we are pretty even on that point.

Who said I love you first?
Jonathan must have. I don't think I would have been that bold.

Who is taller?
Jonathan is taller by 1.5 inches. He is 5'8" and I am 5'6 1/2"

Who sings better?
I'm not really sure. Jonathan sometimes will sing base but usually he just does the melody. We haven't sat by each other in church for ever so long that I am not really sure on this one. I sing alto and sometimes tenor if its a high enough part.

Who is smarter?
Jonathan, of course. Rebekah once got a t-shirt from her grandpa Snow that said, "I got my brains from my dad, my looks from my mother and this t-shirt from my grandpa."

Who does the laundry?
I usually do the laundry but I have taught my children to do their own. I can trust Jonathan with the sheets and towels though. :o)

Who does the dishes?
We all do. :o)

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
Right now Jonathan does. When we first got married I did because the left side was closer to the door. I guess Jonathan felt he was protecting me that way. Now the door is closer to the left side and I sleep there so I could take care of the babies. We don't have babies here anymore but we just haven't changed.

Who pays the bills?
We both do.

Who mows the lawn?
Jonny! When he leaves home I'm not sure who will. We may get a riding mower then because we won't have anymore teenage male hormones to burn.

Who cooks dinner?
I do. Last time Jonathan tried cooking he made instant onions instead of rice.

Who drives when you are together?
Jonathan usually. I manage the kids.

Who is more stubborn?
It depends on what the issue is.

Who is the first to admit when they’re wrong?
I don't know that Jonathan is wrong very much but he usually is the first to apologize when we have had a disagreement. Notice, he doesn't say he is wrong because he usually isn't. He just apologizes for the way he handled it.

Whose parents do you see the most?
We see my mother the most now because she is all we have left.

Who kissed who first?
I would have to say Jonathan initiated the first kiss though we each thought the other initiated the first time we held hands. It must have been a mutual effort.

Who proposed?
Jonathan came to see me one evening. I was washing up the dishes and he was trying to get my room mates to leave. He then said he had three questions to ask me. He had been asking me funny questions all week long. He had told me that most people ask such questions after they get engaged but he wanted to ask them first. (I think that was interesting) He then asked me if I thought we could make it as a couple in the eternities. (I thought that was really interesting) I told him that I thought that any couple could make it if they put their full effort into it. He then told me that when he went to medical school he wouldn't have much time for me and the kids. (I really truly thought this was a interesting thing to be saying to me). I new the big question was coming but wasn't really prepared for it when it came. This evening when he told me he had 3 questions for me I just thought it was going to be more of the pre-wed exam. He then asked me very quickly if I would marry him, when and would I go grocery shopping with him. Of course I said yes to all three.

Who has more friends?
We pretty much have the same friends. I think Jonathan may know more people because of work.

Who has more siblings?
Me. 12 vs 4

Who wears the pants in the family?
Jonathan does. He is the head in the true sense of the word. He is very much what Paul describes in Ephesians when he said "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" Jonathan is very service oriented and compassionate.

Now, I tag Lucy, Jeanne, Angelic, Kristi and who ever else reads this.

That is so fun to read. I'm glad some of those stories are now down in writing. I especially like the "Well hi Jon Snow" and the three question proposal, which actually seemed like 5 questions.
